Le vicende si svolgono nella cittadina di Bon Temps, in Lousiana, dove vivono la cameriera Sookie Stackhouse, che ha poteri telepatici, suo fratello Jason e il vampiro di cui Sookie irrimediabilmente si innamora, Bill Compton.
